Created in 2019, the Calboonya Legacy Information Technology and Computer Science Scholarship is maintained by a gift from a UQ Bachelor of Computer Science (1979) alumni husband and wife, who in regard to the encouragement they received to pursue their education would like to leave a legacy for students who may not have the opportunity to study in the areas of computer science and information technology at the University of Queensland Australia.

The University of Queensland is a public research university mainly situated in Brisbane, the capital city of the Australian state of Queensland. It was established in 1909 by the Queensland parliament, the university is one of the six sandstone universities, an informal designation of the oldest university in each state.
The university was rated second nationally by the Australian Research Council in their latest research assessment and equal second in Australia based on the average of four major global university league tables.
In addition, the University of Queensland is a founding member of edX, Australia’s leading Group of Eight, and the international research-intensive Association of Pacific Rim Universities. The University of Queensland’s research in biomedical and clinical health sciences, technology, engineering, biological sciences, chemical sciences, environmental sciences, and physical sciences was rated above world standard (rating 5).
In 2015, the University of Queensland is rated by Nature Index as the research institution with the highest volume of research output in both interdisciplinary journals Nature and Science within the southern hemisphere, with approximately twofold more output than the global average.

The Calboonya Legacy Information Technology and Computer Science Scholarship will cover at least $4,500 but is limited to the annual income from the fund.
Eligibility for Calboonya Legacy Information Technology and Computer Science Scholarship
- You must demonstrate financial need to be eligible for the scholarship.
- Each candidate must submit an application to the Associate Dean, by the closing date for applications to be qualified.
- Scholars must be enrolled or intend to be enrolled full-time in an Approved Program.
- To be qualified for the scholarship, ensure that you will complete, or have completed, year 12 studies in the two-year period prior to the year of the award.
- You must not hold a scholarship that the Associate Dean considers to be similar.
