Kidnapped Cross River Catholic priest and church members regain freedom

Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Peter Abang Ochang and church members who were kidnapped last week, have been released.

Recall that Fr. Ochang, the chaplain of RCM Parish in the Alok Catholic Diocese of Ogoja in Cross River State, was kidnapped somewhere in Nasarawa State alongside some members of St Jude Society, who were travelling to Abuja on Thursday, November 24, 2022, for important church events when they were waylaid and taken into the bush.

The news of their kidnap was disclosed during morning Mass on Friday by Rev Fr Dr Fidelis Kajibia, the Administrator of St Benedict’s Cathedral, Igoli Ogoja.

The Chairman of Diocesan Education Board, Catholic Diocese of Ogoja, Peter Nandi Bette, also confirmed the abduction.

According to reports, their abductors had demanded N30m ransom for their release.
